Understanding the Impact of Autism on Literacy

Attendees will learn about some common challenges for autistic students that can make the language arts quite difficult, including: (1) orthographic dyslexia (good phonemic awareness, but poor spelling), (2) problems with language skills (including inferencing and comprehension, word-finding, literal interpretation of instructions, and perspective taking), and (3) executive functioning challenges which can make it difficult to get started, and to organize their thoughts.
